I have been working in the healthcare industry for the last twenty years and held various positions, rising through the ranks, and learning along the way. As an observer, I soon realized that the separation of mental health from the medical model was hurting not just the patients, but also the healthcare workers. It was then a unique path developed to bring healing first to myself, and then to other healthcare workers. Knowing that trauma and grief would be a focus for healthcare workers, I merged the nursing knowledge and experience with clinical psychology. I have experience in supporting trauma survivors in an intensive outpatient treatment program, I spent two years at The Elizabeth Hospice learning the psychology of death and dying and received formalized training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) a trauma modality to provide patients an alternative to talk therapy for processing stressful experiences holistically. Over the last five years, I have successfully coached healthcare workers through burn out by creating space for healing through acknowledgement and release of the stress and trauma stored in their body. Letting go of these negative experiences, strengthens their connection to others and brings clarity to their passion and purpose. I have also led trainings on topics such as emotion regulation, conflict resolution and effective communication. I created and led various support groups and trainings related to grief, chronic pain, imposter syndrome and burnout. Now I have taken these experiences and knowledge and formed a nonprofit, Hope for Healers, to advocate for meaningful mental health support amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
