I view my primary responsibility in the counseling relationship is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for clients to explore issues of importance to them. Mutual trust and respect, enabling us to work collaboratively, are key ingredients in an effective, successful therapeutic relationship. My role is not to fix clients or give advice but rather elicit from them the direction and goals they desire and support and encourage them in the process. I approach therapy using an integrated approach grounded in psychodynamic, humanistic, and relational theories.
