Dr. Joseph Zamaria is a psychologist who specializes in working with adults who are currently coping with trauma, adjusting to major life transitions including changes in personal and professional identity, and negotiating interpersonal issues such as family and relationship matters. Zamaria also works with adults who struggle with chronic mental health conditions, including mood disorders and anxiety disorders. In both his clinical practice and research, Zamaria has a focus on integrative psychotherapy, which combines different therapy methods — such as psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and modern mindfulness practices — and tailors them to best serve each patient. He has a special interest in using this approach to treat people of color and those who identify as LGBTQ. After earning his doctorate in psychology at California School of Professional Psychology, Zamaria completed a fellowship in psychology at UCSF. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and National Register of Health Service Psychologists. Dr. Zamaria is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco, where he also serves as Associate Director for the Psychiatry Residency.
